Chimpui (Japanese: チンプイ) is a Japanese manga created by Fujiko F. Fujio in 1985. It tells the story of two cute aliens that come to Earth to find the girl who will marry their prince of planet Mahl and find one in a sixth grade girl named Eri. It was subsequently adapted into an anime television series.
The story revolves around Eri Kasuga, a typical middle school girl whose life turns upside down when two aliens, Chimpui and Wanderyu, suddenly arrive at her home. These extraterrestrial beings come from the planet Mahl, a distant place ruled by a prince named Lulunaru, who has chosen Eri to be his bride.
While Chimpui and Wanderyu try to convince Eri to marry the prince and move to their planet, Eri is not interested in leaving Earth or her normal life behind. Despite their continuous efforts, Eri rejects the idea of marrying a stranger from another world. However, Chimpui stays with her, forming a close bond, and often assists her in her daily life with his magical powers, helping her out of tricky situations and misunderstandings.
The anime humorously explores the adventures of Eri, Chimpui, and her friends, blending daily life with whimsical sci-fi elements as Eri navigates her teenage years, all while keeping the persistent aliens at bay. The heart of the show lies in the friendships that develop, the comedic interactions, and Eri’s determination to live life on her own terms.
